COLLECTION 9: the Holiday Collection

Baby it’s cold outside, and old man winter is steadily knocking at our craft room door! New to Collection 9 is a fun series dedicated to the universal symbol for winter – snow, or as we like to call them…flurries!

Throughout the week, we will be sharing a variety of new product and lots of crafty inspiration for making your holidays the prettiest ever with our Make it Pretty: Holiday Collection.

This entire collection is filled with stamps and dies that make gift giving a true work of art. We LOVE to give gifts, receive gifts, open gifts, share gifts…you get the picture. This release is dedicated to gift giving. In each series, you will find so many useful options that will carry you well beyond the holiday season.

We’ve loved creating flurries since our very first art project in kindergarten….you know the one where you fold up a circle, make a series of cut outs and when unfolded reveals a marvelous snowflake design. Well we have since graduated to a more modern take on DIY fun with flurries.

____________________________________________________________________

Flurry Die

___________________________________________________________________

Create a bold winter statement with a big, beautiful flurry die.

  • Flurry {$20}
  • Includes (1) die
  • Measures approximately 5.5″

We are no strangers to Inlaid Die Cutting – this is a technique when you double cut a die so that you can create a single layer. We have shared inlaid die cutting here, here, and here.

As an alternative option, we went with a Faux Inlaid technique. This is when you use the back of the die to create a depression in your cardstock. Next you die cut your cardstock to inlay, and adhere it in the depressed area to create a single layer.

____________________________________________________________________

Flurries Combo

____________________________________________________________________

We couldn’t create with Flurries without having a combo series in the line up! Combo sets include both the dies and coordinating frame stamps.

Whether stamping or die cutting with flurries, they make great decorations, ornaments, and fab focal points for your holiday gift wrap! Here we die cut the large boxy flurry from a thin wood sheet for a DIY wood veener.

You can also see a pretty, glittered up version of the Flurries Combo (here).

 ____________________________________________________________________

Flurry Days

___________________________________________________________________

Create with decorative flurries to add interest and design details.

  • Flurry Days {$24}
  • Includes (9) stamps
  • Coordinates with the Flurries Combo

Snowflakes and flurries are true winter icons, and so are festive holiday sweaters! Have a little fun with your cards this year – you never know, that ugly sweater you were hiding in the back of the closet may just spark a little inspiration!

____________________________________________________________________

Flurry Days Sentiments

___________________________________________________________________

Celebrate the season with an assortment of holiday inspired sentiments.

A simple set of tags are easy to create with a classic, red and white color story and bold holiday sentiments. A background bar from Background Basics 4 was stamped along the top edge, and the open spaces were filled in with the petite snowflake in the sentiments set.

____________________________________________________________________

Partial Tag Dies

___________________________________________________________________

WARNING: this die will have you looking at stamps and dies in a whole new way! Don’t say we didn’t warn you. Partial tags are hands down our new favorite! What can you make with them you ask? Just about anything tag related you can think of…

  • Partial Tag Dies {$7}
  • Includes (4) pieces – two different styles of partial tags in two sizes
  • Creates partially cut tags

The process is quite simple…

Start by die cutting the partial tag. Next you can either stamp an image and fussy cut it out, or you can partially cut another die to fit the tag. If you choose to partially die cut, you will need to trim near the hanger portion of the tag. It’s that simple!

Here are a few examples of dies and stamps that we combined with the partial tag to create a series of tags:

Are you thinking of all the awesome ways you can use this new die?! It truly is a great addition to your CSS stash and just in time for the holidays.

Notebook Treat Tags

____________________________________________________________________

By now it should be fairly evident that we LOVE celebrating Valentine’s Day…or any holiday dedicated to gifting sweet treats!

We opted to try our hand at fun packaging for an assortment of treats in lieu of a typical Valentine’s Day tag. We grabbed our Notebook Edge die, a few of our favorite holiday snacks, and came up with a trio of notebook treat tags.

Cinnamon Gummie Hearts. To create this tag we started by:

  1. Cutting a cardstock panel and die cutting the Notebook Edge along the top.
  2. Stamped the notebook paper lines from the Air Mail set in My Style Blueprint ink.
  3. Stamped the jar image from Well Preserved Jars: Small and filler hearts image from Apothecary: Holidays, and sentiments in Perfect Little Black Dress ink.
  4. Heart images were colored with markers.
  5. Candy was added to the 2″ Clear Candy Bag and sealed.
  6. The tag was adhered with a mini clothespin.

Chocolate Chip Cookie. These homemade goodies would be adorable to gift for a classroom. To create this tag we started with the same steps 1 + 2, then added:

  1. A stamped cookie plate and cookie images from Apothecary: Sweets, and sentiments from Apothecary: Holidays in Perfect Little Black Dress ink.
  2. Cookie and Cookie Plate were colored with markers.
  3. A heart frame from Shapes: Hearts was stamped in Dare to be a Diva Red ink.
  4. Cookie was added to the 3″ Clear Candy Bag and sealed.
  5. The tag was adhered with a mini clothespin.

Conversation Hearts. These little cutie candies are a Valentine’s Day staple. To create this tag we started with the same steps 1 + 2, then added:

  1. A stamped jar and convo hearts images from Apothecary: Sweets, and sentiments from Apothecary: Holidays and Favor Flags in Perfect Little Black Dress ink.
  2. Apothecary Jar and Convo Hearts were colored with markers.
  3. Mask the jar and stamp a watermark symbol from Sweet Tooth in Pressed Greige Linen ink.
  4. Candy was added to the 2″ Clear Candy Bag and sealed.
  5. The tag was adhered with a mini clothespin.

By keeping the tag design fairly simple, we could easily mix and match our CSS sets to create a fun trio of tags. Stayed tuned for more fun projects all week long featuring Collection 6. And stop by the Design Team today for lots more inspiration…

Style Watch {Backgrounds + Borders}

You all know how much I love papercrafted packaging, right? Well my new favorite things to make are tags! It’s always great to have some on hand when you need to label your gifts. Today I’ve created a realistic birch tag using an awesome new addition to the Clear & Simple Stamps collection…
__________________________________________________________________________________

Winter Rustic: Style Board Inspiration

__________________________________________________________________________________

The Birch Trees background stamp in totally unique and so perfectly designed. I combined this stamp with the Clear & Simple Stamps Imprints 4 Impression plate. Together, these products create a beautiful wintry birch texture. To add a more realistic winter look to this packaging, I used my Leaflets dies to create a paper crafted pine sprig. You’re gonna love how it comes together!

Until later Loverlies,
Amber KG

CSS-QR-ICON.jpg

It’s Cyber Monday, and we have a fun, tech-savvy post to share with you. At Clear and Simple Stamps we love to bridge the gap between high tech gadgets and our love for papercrafting.

Today we are sharing how you can create with both for memorable holiday gifts. We are mixing trendy QR codes with a few fun CSS papercrafting supplies to create voice memo gift tags to add an extra special touch to your gift giving this holiday…

____________________________________________________________________

What is a QR Code?

____________________________________________________________________

You may be wondering “What is a QR code?” and “What is so special about them?” QR codes {short for Quick Response Codes} are 2-dimensional bar codes that can be read using an app on your smart phone.

These unique bar codes are no longer just for scanning items at a checkout counter.  You can find bar codes on your airline tickets, billboards, magazine ads, and more. Each bar code is designed to communicate a specific end use – once scanned they can reveal a simple text message, a video, a coupon code, a link to a product on a webpage, and even a recorded voice memo.

For today’s project, we will walk you through using a website and app called Vocal-it, designed by Trizero. We are in no way affiliated with this company. It is an app that we use personally and wanted to share with others.  There may be other companies that provide a similar service, however, we have enjoyed using this particular website for creating our voice memo tags.

To get started, you will want to visit the Vocal-it website and sign up for a free account. You will receive (12) free codes just for signing up. Click on the link on your account page to download your free QR codes. We recommend that you print off your sheet of QR codes. This way you can write next to each code what the message is or who it was for, so that you can keep track of each code.

You will then proceed to the iTunes App store and download the free app. (The App also works for other smart phone devices, however, we used the iPhone app for our project.)

Once registered, you will be prompted to get your code. Since we printed our codes from the PDF download it makes the next steps very simple.

You will have the option to get your code via Camera, Manual Input or Photo Library. Choose the “camera” option.

You will use your camera to scan the QR code from the printed sheet of (12) codes.

Your phone will store the QR code information and prompt you to begin recording your message. Select the “rec” icon on the screen and begin recording.  You will have 30 secs and can pause or re-record until you are satisfied with your personal message.

You now have a personal recorded message that you can use on your holiday cards and gifts.

____________________________________________________________________

Cyber Monday Gift Tags

____________________________________________________________________

Now that we know what QR Codes are and we have recorded our special voice memo, we wanted to share a fun project using our new QR codes for the holidays!

We made a simple tag on the computer that reads “scan me for you special message” that included the QR code image. We printed it on a full sheet label and die cut the tag using the Wrappers die cut.

Our gift was wrapped with In the Limelight gift wrap that was stamped using the Distressed Linen background in In the Limelight hybrid ink to create a subtle pattern. Ribbon was threaded through each slit on the Wrapper to create a slider tag. The ribbon was wrapped around the gift and was tied into a bow. Two small jingle bells embellishments were added to hang from the bow.

Give the QR code a try. Scan our tag –  a special voice message awaits you!

In order to scan a QR code, you will need to download a QR Reader app for your smart phone. There are several free QR readers  – check with your service provider for one that works with your model smart phone. You can also click here for a general search for QR readers or here to try the AT&T Scanner App that we use.

CSS-TheStates-1e.jpg

It’s high travel season. Destination weddings, family reunions, and fun summer getaways are in full swing. So why not welcome your out-of-town guests with a little taste of the city…

____________________________________________________________________

Welcome to VT

____________________________________________________________________

Collection 3 has a variety of great products that are perfect for travel inspired projects. Today, we are sharing a state inspired breakfast treat that can also double as a welcome gift.

For state inspired favors, you want to select items that the state is well known for, and is also a popular item. For Vermont, we chose maple syrup. Other fun state ideas could include: Crab Boil Jars (Maryland), Salt Water Taffy (Ocean City, NJ), a bag of Peanuts (Georgia), Bagel and Cream Cheese (Philadelphia, PA), Oranges (Florida)….and so on. By adding a simple, decorated tag you can dress up everyday snacks and transform them into state-inspired favors.

To create today’s project, we die cut a small tag from Tags 1 and then stamped it with the Plaid background. The sentiment was stamped next, and then the state of Vermont was die cut from the State-to-State dies and adhered with dimensionals. The neck of the bottle was wrapped with Orange You Fabulous ribbon and tied into a bow. The tag was then added with Yellow/White Twine to complete the favor.

Flowers For You

___________________________________________________________________

We created a fun party favor for today’s project. We used a background bar from the Flower Garden stamp set. The red buds were stamped on the lid of the favor, and the green stems were stamped on the base. When assembled they line up perfectly to create a sweet floral pattern around the party favor box. A coordinating tag was tied on with Red/White twine to complete the project. We hope you are inspired to create something with red flowers today – Happy Red Roses Day!
