CSS-BerrySweetStationery1a.jpg

We have pretty much decided that it is finally safe to embrace the change in seasons.  So long winter blues, hello spring with bright splashes of color! We had a few sheets of fun, old fashioned soda bottle cap designer paper in the office, which sparked a sweet idea to create strawberry soda inspired stationery.

This ode to berries and bubbles uses one of our favorite techniques – Negative Masking. This is where you mask everything outside of the main image to add fun details to the interior of an image. We’re sharing a simple tutorial on just how to create this cute stationery using Negative Masking.

  • We started by die cutting the flat note card using the Loose Ticket style A4 Note Card die, then stamping the soda bottle image from Taglines: By the Glass.
  • The bottle image is stamped again onto masking paper.  We choose to stamp on a larger piece of masking paper, so that we can make sure to have extra mask around the image.
  • To create a Negative Mask, we cut inside of the stamped outline.  This creates an open area on the interior of the stamped image.
  • Next the fun part happens! We stamped the super adorable strawberry image from Perfect Harvest directly onto that open area of the mask.  By having that extra mask around the stamped image we don’t have to worry about getting any unwanted stamping onto our die cut panel.
  • and that’s it…next we colored in the image with our markers. Once colored we stamped a few bubbles and added highlights with a white gel pen.
  • TIP: use the positive mask which will now be the inside of the bottle to stamp your straw. Then remove the mask, and without reinking stamp the bottom portion of the straw to give the illusion of the straw inside the bottle.

CARDSTOCK: A Blanc Check | INK: Perfect Little Black Dress, Paint the Town Pink (tiny bubbles)| STAMPS: Taglines: By the Glass, Perfect Harvest, Let’s Bake: Macarons (sentiment)| DIES: Favor Flags, A4 Note Cards, A4 Envie Liner | ENVELOPE: A4 I’m a Princess Pink | OTHER: Markers, Masking Paper

Pop on over to our instagram (@clearandsimplestamps) to see our inspiration for creating this adorable berry sweet stationery…and yes we are even having a “pop” vs. “soda” debate. What’s your preference? Being East Coast girls we gotta go with #teamsoda!

A4 Note Cards measure 3.5″ x 5″, and come in (5) fab styles.

The holidays are a busy time of year, so why not create a set of note cards from dies to help save time! There are (5) fun styles to choose from to add variety and interest to your cards this season and all year long.

A4 Envie + Liner Dies

____________________________________________________________________

A handmade note card deserves an equally awesome handmade envelope to match, not to mention a super stylish envie liner to give it a little extra bit of creative detail.

Flat note cards are a great for holiday mailings. We started with a die cut A4 Note Card and created a custom sentiment with the Alpha Wide stamp set to spell “merry” in My Style Blueprint ink. The geometric filler images add a fun and playful element to this modern design.

We added a bold liner by stamping Designer Lines in Perfect Little Black Dress Ink. The liner is purposely shorter along the top edge of the envie to allow for adhesive to seal the envelope closed.

The A4 Pocket Fold Envie is perfect for party invitations, note card enclosures, photo cards, and more.

When a project calls for an enclosure, we reach for the A4 Pocket Fold Envie Die.  ____________________________________________________________________

Cover an area with fun movement in a variety of traditional iconic designs,

Add pretty details to projects with one simple stamp. Here we heat embossed the trail of stars with gold embossing powder for a holiday card that sparkles!

By using the A4 Note Card as a popped up panel, and die cutting the A4 Envie and matching glittery liner, these holiday cards are simple to assemble and great for mass producing with style.

Make a statement and be seen with the wide sentiment bars in this stamp set. Mix and match for a variety of occasions.

When it comes to giving gifts, its the thought that counts.  Grand gestures can certainly come in sweet and simple packages.

Color blocking is a classic trend that you can pretty much bank on being a design staple for years to come. Here we went with a traditional holiday mix of red and white. Our envie has a simple Dare to be a Diva Red inked stripe for a bold, yet simple statement.

To create this stripe we masked off the envelope with just a thin edge exposed. Next we inked up our Create-a-Plaid: Wide stripe and stamped onto the envelope. We peeled back the mask to reveal a perfect striped edge envie.

Inside is a stamped liner using the snowflake background bar from Cover Prints 1.

Can we say #PartialTagDieLove?! How perfect for creating sentiment strip tags by pairing them with the Partial Tag Dies. We die cut the partial tag, then stamped our sentiment, and trimmed the edges to create the tag. Thread with a bit of Silver/White twine and you are all set to go.

Let’s just say we have a bowl of these tags handy at our gift wrapping station!

I. Love. Fonts. When it’s all said and done, I think I will have spent at least a year of my life playing around with fonts. I can’t help myself. Current stationery trends (especially on Pinterest) are heavy on the use of engraved fonts and fonts inspired by hand-lettering.

I’m sharing another “from pin to paper” project in today’s issue of Style Watch. I’m inspired by the beautiful engraved fonts and showing you how to use your Uppercase Alphabet dies to create the look yourself…

Do you remember having a pen pal?  We sure do!  In fact, we made it a point to have more than one so that we would always have mail to look forward to every week.

Designer Lori Tecler is joining us today with a super fun idea, that has us feeling quite nostalgic. She has made an adorable pen pal stationery set with Rag Doll Jake: Pen Pal –  naturally a perfect set for creating a bit of Rag Doll Mail…

Rag Doll Mail

__________________________________________________________________________________

As kids we were always super excited to receive our letters in the mail.  Here are (5) tips when it comes to your little one having a pen pal:

  1. Always be yourself! Share a few of your likes and dislikes.
  2. Ask lots of questions so that your pen pal will be engaged and want to write you back.
  3. Remember that your pen pal may live across town, another state, or even another country – snail mail will take a bit of time…hence why we call it snail mail!
  4. Be sure to answer your pen pal’s questions to keep the conversation going.
  5. Most importantly – have fun reading and writing. Having a Pen Pal is a great way to grow your comprehension skills.

Visit Lori’s blog for more on “how-to” create her Rag Doll Stationery set, which is a perfect gift for when you request someone to be a pen pal!

COLLECTION 8: File It Series

We love paper…more than paper we love stationery! And are completely obsessed with packaging it up and gifting it to friends and family. Not to mention, that everyone that visits our crafty space tends to always have their eye on a card or two that they want to take home with them.

Of course we are happy to oblige. And the look on the recipient’s face when they ask “did you make this?” is priceless. It makes all the pining over where to place your sentiment, and your new sparkly carpet thanks to that bottle of glitter that tipped over and the cap wasn’t on tight, or the shear panic that ensues when you find out you only have one sheet left of your favorite designer paper all worth it!

With so much love poured into each design, it seems only appropriate that we dress our stationery in style with equally gorgeous packaging, create a system for filing away completed projects so they can be easily found, or even prettily prepping them for sale. The new File It: Stationery set was designed with all those options in mind and more…

With the File It: Stationery set, you can easily package sets in a professional and fun way.

You can never have enough “thank you” cards on hand. Just ask Hallmark – thank you cards are among the highest selling card category in their stores. But why buy when you can create a little piece of art from the heart using your paparcrafting supplies!

Our card set holds (10) note cards, so we chose a design that would be simple to mass produce with a little shimmer. Our envies have matching gold liners, which is reminiscent of a high end stationery card set.

When gifting full sets, we like to package them in clear boxes so the recipient can see what they are getting. With the File It: Stationery set, it’s great to be able to add custom labels to each card set. From the number of cards and envies included, if they are blank on the inside, to the type of cards included: holiday, birthday, thank you, etc.

The Wrappers dies coordinates perfectly to cut out a variety of label shapes to work with the File It: Stationery label index. You can even include coordinating tags, or address labels and postage, as we did for this set of cards.

Now when family and friends tell you that “you could sell your cards” – creating packaging will be a breeze. Here is a list of CSS supplies to get you started organizing your stationery:

We hope you you have enjoyed the up close look at the File It Series,
and are excited to see more of the the Collection 8 release.
The full collection reveal begins Sept 3rd, until then Happy Labor Day!

The File It Series is now available for purchase [here]

CSS-FileIt-2.jpg

Let’s talk color. What is your favorite color? Or are you like us and you have lots of favorites? Our color of choice changes with the seasons, the mood of the day, or can sometimes be influenced by current color trends – we have our friends at Pantone to thank for that!

We started release week with the File It Series basics (here). So today we are adding in one of our most favorite design elements…you guessed it – color! As you can see, even our crafty snacks want in on the color coordinating fun.

When working with color its a good idea to create a system for having swatches of each color that you can keep close by on your desk or in something portable that is easy to take with you. Now remember, we forewarned you that you will be reaching for the Stationery Organizer Dies quite often, they are just that much fun to work with and create the perfect solutions for craftization!

When designing stamps for the File it Series, we knew our need for color coding would be front and center and we set out to create a stamp set specifically for organizing color. And with a full line of color-coordinated Hybrid Inks, Cardstock, Ribbon, Gift Wrap and Envelopes we couldn’t resist creating an exclusive stamp set dedicated to organizing your Clear and Simple Stamps signature colors as well…

With (46) colors in the Clear and Simple Stamps color line, creating a CSS Color Guide was a welcomed project. The cover is a random sampling of colors stamped with the small rectangle filler image from the File It: Color set.

Each color is represented as an index card, and is accompanied with a color legend index. This way we know which colors have coordinating products to help build out our designs. The full index card of cardstock is there for those times when you need a larger swatch to get a true sense of how the color will translate into a project.  It’s just like getting those adorable little paint chip squares, only to come home and after the first wide brush stroke realize it’s just not the right shade. A larger swatch gives you a better sense of the true color.

So many of our images can be colored with markers, we added the coordinating Copic Marker colors to take the guess work out of matching our colors with markers. Of course you can use this with any of your alcohol ink markers, we happen to prefer Copics.

We honestly don’t know how we managed without this crafty tool before now! Every CSS color name is included in the File It: CSS Color set, which allows you to create with a very uniform and professional look. And this goes for more than creating a color guide. With several different combinations of indexes and label sentiments you can design a wide variety of color inspired organization.

Here we used File It: Color to stamp die cut labels with a color combo index, you can pre-stamp the labels and have them ready to go whenever a new color combo comes to mind. To fill them in we used our CSS Hybrid inks to add the color, and also to stamp the color name from File It: CSS Color.

Feeling ready to color coordinate your stash? The File It Series is now available for purchase [here]. You can create your own color organizing systems with the new File It Series. Whether you are creating color charts, cataloging color combos, or making CSS color swatches – the possibilities are incredibly fun and functional!
