Puzzle Die

___________________________________________________________________

Turn any crafty project into a puzzle. This die fits nicely into a standard A2 Envelope for easy mailing.

  • Puzzle Die {$16}
  • Includes (1) piece die
  • Assembles measures 4.25″ x 5.5″

If you love games, then this puzzle die will certainly get a workout in your craft room! In our family, we grew up on game night playing Scrabble, Yahtzee, Life, Monopoly, Uno, Crosswords, Where’s Waldo, Jenga, Trivial Pursuit…you name it, we played it!

But most of all we have lots of fond memories spent around figuring out jigsaw puzzles. This die cuts as one piece, with all the pieces still slightly connected.  This will allow you the ability to stamp, color, sponge, emboss – etc without having to keep up with all the pieces.

Once your puzzle is complete, you can tuck it into an A2 Envelope or you can break apart the pieces by hand or with scissors and place it into pretty packaging.

Since we are such a puzzle friendly family, it was only fitting to create a keepsake from my wedding to share with the hubby. Married in the Dominican Republic on a pier over the ocean, this was one of our favorite photos that was die cut to create a puzzle.

On the card two puzzle pieces were stamped with the heart image from Oh My Stripes in Dare to be a Diva Red ink. Each piece was outlined in a Multiliner Pen and a fun sentiment stamped below from Foodie Fun Sentiments.

A Clear Pillow Box holds all the pieces and a little polaroid tag with our picture. If you are wondering how the Polaroid Frame Die turned into the tag…be sure to check back this week – you will absolutely LOVE what’s to come!

CSS-BuildaRagdollGirl-1a.jpg

We have a new baby girl in the family – sweet, little Rebecca! A few weeks ago, our cousins welcomed a new little wonder to the world and we can’t wait to meet her. Of course we wanted to make sure we greeted her with a cute plushie rag doll, similar to dolls we had as kids…

____________________________________________________________________

Build-a-Rag Doll: Girl

____________________________________________________________________

Sewing together Rebecca’s rag doll was made simple with the Build-a-Rag Doll dies. We die cut each piece of fabric using our Big Shot, and quickly sewed them according to the pattern included with the dies on our Janome Sew Mini machine.

Our color palette for the Rag Doll came together with ease using the limited edition fabric that came free with purchase (*0nly available while supplies last). We chose the floral pattern for the dress portion of the doll, which made it simple to choose coordinating colors for her tights, and satin ribbon embellishment.

We added small elements to our doll that vary slightly from the pattern.  You might notice her feet are sitting up. With a slight adjustment in the placement of the feet, you can now have them sitting in a different direction. And we love the shiny double-faced satin ribbon for a mix of texture and a little bit of shine.

You can check out this post [here] for other fun ways to embellish your rag dolls, and this post [here] for great how-to assemble your rag doll videos.

We love creating handmade gifts for friends and family, and hope that little Rebecca will love her sweet rag doll for years to come! You can create you own plush toy Rag Dolls with just a few Clear and Simple Stamps supplies to get you started…

Are you expecting a sweet little bundle of joy? Celebrate with high tea. What says “it’s a girl” better than a pretty in pink tea for the mom to be…

____________________________________________________________________

Baby Shower Tea

____________________________________________________________________

Enter cucumber sandwiches, crocheted doilies, and perfectly polished pinky nails for sipping freshly brewed tea. A Baby Shower Tea is the perfect blend of a traditional party theme with a modern twist.

Since our shower is for “her”, we jumped at a chance to get super girly and design with shades of pink. To keep the theme playful and chic, we chose a mix of pastels that are a timeless, classic treat: I’m a Princess Pink | Leek-ed to the Press | Pressed Greige Linen | I Steel Got It.

Make a lasting impression on your invited guests and get them excited to join in the fun by including a pre-party favor with the invitation. We selected Party Favor 9 as the perfect packaging for personalized tea bags that coordinate with the party theme.

We loved the idea of mixing a classic laurel wreath from Alpha Monogram with a sweet little tea pot from Spot of Tea as the focal point for our Baby Shower Tea. With just a few Clear and Simple Stamps supplies you can easily create your very own special tea party…

CSS-LovelyLeaflets-1c.jpg

Creating for little ones is always a special treat. There are so many ways to be inspired to create – monograms for the baby name, colors from the nursery, or even adorable characters. We chose the sweet giraffe image in the Baby Shower set as the “logo” for our baby ensemble…

____________________________________________________________________

Oh Baby

____________________________________________________________________

Gone are the days of pink or blue as the standard. By combining a few traditional baby colors together with metallic and gray, we’ve created an unconventional color palette, which is becoming a growing trend in hosting chic baby showers. We welcomed this fun color combo to work with while creating today’s projects:

To create this card and favor set, we mixed collections for a fun, whimsical style baby card. Our modern color combo allows this gift set to be gender neutral. You can easily switch out the dainty bow from the Cake Domes set for a handsome bow tie from the Tiny Fashions stamp set.

Remember to create a mask for the Lovely Leaflets inner circle before you stamp your giraffe image from the Baby Shower set to create a perfectly framed image. And repeat signature elements onto a small Tags 2 tag for a nicely coordinated gift set.

The Party Favor 5 gift box is a great size for a rolled up onesie, a cute pair of socks, or a nice way to package up a gift card to the parents-to-be’s favorite store to shop for baby!

{SUPPLIES} 1. Lovely Leaflets | 2. Cake Domes | 3. Baby Shower | 4. Party Favor 5 | 5. Natural Cotton Twine | 6. Tags 2 Dies | 7. Toppers Fillers | 8. Taglines

CSS-PF8-2d.jpg

Spring is here! Let’s celebrate by getting into shape – the anatomy of shapes that is…as we explore creating unique patterns with geometric shapes, or fun shape cards. This week features ideas using stamps and/or dies to create shapes. Today we are sharing projects created with the theme {Shapes of Spring}…

___________________________________________________________________

Inlaid Shape Card Set

___________________________________________________________________

We have certainly enjoyed creating cards with inlaid designs. Both using letters here and here. Today we are incorporating fun shapes into the mix.

We started with a Party Favor 8 box to create a 3-D baby shower invitation . The front flap of the box is a fun replica of the card tucked inside.

To create the inlaid design on the front, we simply die cut the large giraffe using the Baby Shower Large die, stamped the inlaid portion with a Gingham pattern first, then adhered it to the flap on the backside. To conceal the tape, we adhered a single Say Yellow to All Your Fans cardstock panel.

A sweet Trendsetter Blue bow tie was die cut from the Bow Trio: Mini die and adhered to the neck of the giraffe.

On the inside opposite of the flap, is a fun geometric background pattern from Stars Plus and a stamped shaped label with a sweet Shower Sentiment.

To keep the party favor box closed with added Natural Cotton Twine on the side panels to create a tie closure.

We carried the inlaid theme a bit further, with matching invitations inside the box. The giraffe was die cut from Say Yellow to All Your Fans cardstock, stamped with a Gingham background, and then traced onto the die cut heart. The giraffe was then die cut from the heart, and pieced back together to fit around the original, stamped die cut giraffe. A small bow from Tiny Fashions was die cut and stamped with the coordinating image and inlaid into the die cut panel.

We’ve had fun embracing shapes for today’s project. We’d love to see if you incorporate them into your next CSS designs…

CSS-LargePrintAlpha-1c.jpg

We have loved alphabets since we were little singing along with the “Alphabet Song” on Sesame Street! Whether it is creating monograms, custom sentiments, or for learning purposes – creating with alphabets can be so much fun. This week features ideas creating with CSS Alphabet stamps and/or dies. We are sharing projects created with the theme {All About the Alphabets}…

___________________________________________________________________

“B” is for Baby

___________________________________________________________________

In thinking about our ABC’s we naturally wanted to create a pair of baby cards. We reached for the new Large Print Alphas to make a big statement on each card.

“B” is for baby is a fun play on letters, and a great theme for a baby shower. You can bring in all sorts of “B” items to help create a full on shower. Here we choose a gender neutral color to stamp the Gingham background for the large letter “B”.

Next we die cut a banner from linen fabric paper using the Favor Flags dies, and stamped it with the “B” is for baby sentiment from Punny Baby in I Steel Got It ink, which is great for stamping on fabric. The cute little teddy bear from Cart Pals: Baby was stamped, colored, cut out, and adhered behind the banner.

For this next project, we had fun creating interlocking letters. We love the layered looked of large letters but didn’t want it to be too bulky. To solve for this, we double cut the letters for an inlaid appearance.

A little linen fabric bow was die cut using the Bow Trio: Mini, and adhered to the inlaid sentiment. We love how the linen bow is the perfect match for the subtle Gingham background stamped in Pressed Greige Linen ink.

Try using your CSS stamps and dies to create alphabet inspired projects…

Pickles + Ice Cream Baby Shower

___________________________________________________________________

It’s all about the cravings, or so they say. Mom’s-to-be are notorious for eccentric food pairings, and we thought it would be a fun idea to incorporate the ever popular “Pickles and Ice Cream” theme for a baby shower invitation. By playing up the color green, this serves as a great gender neutral shower – not too mention green is the Pantone Color of the Year.

And well, since ice cream doesn’t travel to well we decided a jar of dill pickle relish is the perfect snack-size treat to really make these invites special. How can you resist opening a package with a decorated jar stating “we’re craving your company”?

The tag on the jar is the Mini Label Tags, stamped with the frame outline image from Party Elements: Baby. For the jar lid, we die cut a circle from In the Limelight cardstock, and stamped the curved sentiment in color for a subtle look.

The invitation carries the same hints of green with a few deeper tones added with markers. The pickled topped ice-cream cone is part of the Punny Baby stamp set, which is great for fun, themed showers. It includes a variety of punny sentiments to help build out your shower themes, coordinating images, and even the little details like the polka dot ice cream scoop filler image that we stamped in, In the Limelight Green ink.

GET TO KNOW CSS {Fab 5}

Ever wonder about the behind-the-scenes aspect of a papercrafting business?  Have a question or two about a project that you have seen and want more details? Thinking about ways to get published or join a design team? Want to see what CSS crafty spaces look like? These are just a few of the questions we receive quite regularly via email or facebook, so we decided to sit down with the owners for an awesome Q&A session packed with projects and insider info. Over the next two weeks, we’ll be answering a couple more of your most popular questions as we continue with this fun “Get to Know CSS” series here on the blog…

____________________________________________________________________

Get to Know CSS: Fab 5

____________________________________________________________________

Q: “What is the most popular

CSS product at the moment?”

{submitted by Audrey}

NICKI: Thanks Audrey – what a great question! In fact I love it when we get asked this question, because it really speaks to the diversity and uniqueness of the products we offer.  There truly is equity across all of our CSS products. And what I mean by that is, we do not have one specific “popular” product, instead we have (5) series that customers tend to really enjoy – we call them our Fab 5!

  1. Backgrounds
  2. Shape Combo Sets
  3. Rag Dolls
  4. Builder Dies
  5. Party Favors

____________________________________________________________________

The Fab 5

____________________________________________________________________

Each product series has several options to choose from.  We strongly believe in offering variety! Since it is the holidays, we created an assortment of fun gift wrapping options using supplies from the Fab 5…

{BACKGROUNDS}

We love to create backgrounds that offer the ability to repeat – both left to right, and top to bottom. This feature is one that makes our images unique.  We put a lot of thought into how you can get the most use from each set.

Here we used the set Squares Plus. It’s a geometric background set that offers several background bars and single image filler squares so that you can create your own custom backgrounds as well. We used the small square bar to create a custom background on our gift wrap.

  • Start by measuring the size gift wrap you will need, and cut from the roll of wrapping paper.
  • Next we simply inked the background in Kraft Like a Rockstar Green ink and repeated the image to cover the entire sheet of Kraft Like a Rockstar Green gift wrap to create a seamless background.
  • We wrapped our gift, tied with ribbon into a bow, and hung a gift tag.

{SHAPE COMBO SETS}

We get asked quite a bit about the combo sets. Customers really love that the sets come with coordinating dies. This way you can create projects with stamps and dies that match right out of the box. Whenever you see “Combo” in the description, rest assured matching dies are included!

We love to have fun with shapes. Here a square is more than just a square – it’s a fun little tribute to jolly old St. Nick.

  • We recreated his signature red suit by cutting a 3.25″ x 6.5″ panel of Dare to be a Diva Red cardstock, scoring at 3.25″, then die cutting with a 3″ square from the Shapes: Squares dies positioned slightly above the fold. This way when you die cut, the die will not cut the fold and you will have a die cut card base.
  • We used a strip of A Blanc Check cardstock to serve as his white belt.
  • And double cut a panel of Perfect Little Black Dress cardstock for his black buckle. A thin center strip was added to the hollow square to guide the center belt strip.

A fun treat bag of coal (mint truffle Hershey kisses) was added to create a sweet gift that is perfect for a co-worker during the holidays. We stamped directly onto the bag using the Alpha Duo set to spell out the word “coal” and Trinket Sentiments for the “secret santa” sentiment. The drawstring was replaced with Perfect Little Black Dress ribbon.

{RAG DOLLS}

As little kids we loved playing with Rag Dolls. These were handmade dolls made from swatches of fabric in our grandmother’s sewing room. So when illustrator Steph Zerbe captured those adorable stitched lines that are synonymous with true Rag Dolls, we instantly fell in love.

We mentioned earlier that our “combo” sets come with coordinating dies. As a fun feature for the Rag Doll series, we also have “combo” sets available that include a coordinating die for specific Rag Doll sets.

Here we used Rag Doll Mia: Banner.  This is a combo set, and by having the dies we were able to create a tag. We grabbed our Tags 2 and Rag Doll Mia: Banner dies for this project.

  • You will start by creating a partial cut using the larger tag in the Tags 2 die set. We just cut the hang tag portion.
  • Next you will overlap the Rag Doll Mia: Banner die, and adhere in place with painter’s tape.
  • You will place the die slightly off of the die cutting platform where the Rag Doll’s head and the cut hang tag portion meet.
  • Die cut the Rag Doll. You may have a small area that did not cut, you will see a slight indentation outline from the Rag Doll die. Take your scissors and trim to make a clean edge for your tag – as needed.
  • Stamp your coordinating image in Perfect Little Black Dress ink and color with markers.

You can use this process to turn any die into a fun tag – give it a try. Just imagine creating these for a kids’ Christmas party, and each gift had an adorable Rag Doll Tag – so fun!

{BUILDER DIES}

We love getting creative with our dies. The builder series of dies has grown from layered flowers, adorable critters, loveable monsters, to fun fruit appliques. You will certainly see more innovative dies in 2013, which we look forward to sharing very soon!

Keeping with our holiday theme, we couldn’t resist making a set of gift tags packaged using the Build-a-Critter: Owl and Party Favor 6 dies.

  • A set of Wrappers labels were die cute from Cre’me de la Cream cardstock.
  • We then stamped a cute image frame, masked in a matching owl image from Taglines: Critters and colored it to match the builder owl.
  • Next we stamped the “to/from” sentiment and added eyelets were to create the tags.
  • We die cut and assembled the pieces to create the Build-a-Critter: Owl and Party Favor 6 to hold the tags and bundle of Red/White Twine Cord.

{PARTY FAVORS}

Every good event should have a fun Party Favors. These are a series of boxes and bags that can be easily customized with stamps or dies for perfectly coordinated events.

With each holiday comes new little wonders. This fun favor is perfect for welcoming a new December baby. We love pairing our large die cuts with the different party favor bags. It’s a great way to dress them up for so many fun occasions. For this sweet favor:

  • We first die cut and assembled the Party Favor 1 bog from Cre’me de la Cream cardstock.
  • Next we die cut the Large Baby Shower giraffe die from Leek-ed to the Press cardstock and stamped the entire die with the Gingham background. Again you can easily line up the die on all four sides to repeat seamlessly.
  • We tied jingle bells on each end of a strand of Red/White twine, wrapped the twine around the giraffe’s neck for a scarf and adhere the die cut to the favor front.
  • A Favor Flags banner was die cut and stamped with a sentiment, and adhere to the favor bag front.

Now this adorable favor is ready for gifting for baby’s first Christmas.

Are you celebrating a new little addition to the family this holiday? No matter the time of year, we always find it good to have a few baby gifts on hand. Since Pantone announced the 2013 color of the year, you will mostly likely see lots more gender neutral baby gifts on the market in varying shades of green…

Bundle of Joy

We love the new Leek-ed to the Press color story. It’s a softer shade of green and absolutely wonderful for baby gifts. And not just any baby gift…a cutely packaged and perfectly coordinated onesie for one stylish little bundle of joy!

Collection 5 included some of the most adorable fruit and veggie images. We immediately thought of a “sweet pea” themed baby gift.  This gift set includes a mini tote bag, customized onesie, coordinated card and tag.

We started by stamping this mini tote bag. Clear and Simple Stamps hybrid ink stamps wonderfully on fabric, and is permanent. You can always heat set your images for added care, but it is not required.

We stamped the word “baby” using the Alpha Dots set. Creating words is super easy with the alphabet sets, as each letter is sized equally for quick and simple alignment – you’ll get a straight sentiment each time! We’ve also added the word “couture” from the Tiny Fashions set for a fun play on words.

Next we added a little onesie tag, again using the Tiny Fashions stamp set and coordinating dies. We stamped a darling little pea pod image from the Perfect Harvest Too set onto the onesie. The main body of the pod was stamped with a polka dot filler image and the rest was colored in with our Copic Trios. A Favor Flag banner was die cut from Leek-ed to the Press cardstock, stamped with the “bundle of joy” sentiment from the Limited Edition: Joy set, and adhere to the onesie. An eyelet was added, and the tag was adhered to the tote bag with Sterling Silver cord and A Blanc Check ribbon.

Then comes the gift itself. We love to create themed gifts.  It’s fun create all the coordinating pieces. For the onesie, we kept the design simple. We used the same Alpha Dots to spell the word “pea” and added in the “sweet” from Sweet Sentiments: Holidays. And this time instead of stamping the outline and coloring in the image, we stamped the solid pea pod image from Perfect Harvest Too – we love that you get both options in this set. You can use them together or separately. On the back of the onesie we created a little logo with the same solid pea pod image.

Do you notice that sweet little tag? The Onesie Decorating set includes sizing stamps for creating these cute tags, and so much more for hosting onesie decorating parties! We die cut the mini tag from Tags 1 stamped the pea pod image and then the sizing sentiment on top. It’s the small little details that add so much charm.

With the gift complete, all we needed to add was a coordinating card. This 3″ square card tucks nicely inside the tote bag along with the onesie. We cut a slightly smaller 2.75″ panel, stamped it with the Gingham background. Nothing says “baby” more than a soft-hued gingham pattern. We die cut the wide Favor Flags banner, and cut it apart to use only one half. The pea pod image was stamped the same as the onesie tag earlier. We simply added a little heart image from the Baby Shower set, and stamped the punny sentiment from Perfect Harvest Fillers.

Plan ahead and keep a stash of these adorable “Bundle of Joy” gift sets to welcome a new little sweet pea!
