css-Inkchart4.jpg

By now you have heard about our flash sale on CSS Hybrid Ink Pads…if you haven’t, you’ll want to pop by the store and shop the collection – colors are selling out quickly! To help organize your ink colors, we’ve updated our trusty CSS Hybrid Ink Chart to include the two fab new colors for 2014.

This ink chart is a very useful tool for your craft room, and we are sharing the free download  [here] with you.

There are a few great features about this ink chart that we want to share:

  • Each color has two printed boxes. Stamp any image of your choice to showcase the ink colors. We chose the solid square from the set Mini Squares – it’s a perfect fit to fill the openings.
  • The 1st box is for full color impressions. The 2nd box is for you to stamp the same image again without reinking.  This will give you a “second” inking, which will result in a softer shade – a more subtle color.
  • Page 3 includes an area for cataloging your favorite embossing powders with our watermark/embossing ink: From an Anonymous Source.

We suggest you print the color chart onto A Blanc Check cardstock so that you can have a true sample of how each color will appear. And a lovely piece or art for your craft space.

Have fun filling in your CSS Hybrid Ink Chart. Be sure to shop the flash sale for half off all Hybrid Inks until 11:59PM tonight.

Prayer Breakfast Tea

____________________________________________________________________

It’s no secret how much we love to plan parties. In our rolodex of events is a Prayer Breakfast Tea that we are excited to share a glimpse of the planning process!

With so many details that go into to planning, having the new File it Series on hand makes the task of planning an event simple and fun. We started with pulling the event details together and selecting a color story for the event.

The Prayer Breakfast was created with a simple theme that came from the verse Psalm 23: 5 “my cup runneth over”. A great verse that speaks to many, and was easily translated into an event theme of tea. We created very simple invitations, that can be replicated quickly and only need a few stamped images to complete the invite.

We are sharing the PDF download of the invitation, that you can use to host your own Prayer Breakfast, using the same theme. There are two versions available for download: one in black text and the other in brown text.

Once we printed off the invitations, we added a few stamped details to bring it all together:

  1. The verse is printed off to the side.  We used the File It: Devotional to add “Psalm” to the verse in Espresso Your Style ink.
  2. Next we stamped the open banner in Alpha Monogram to turn the verse into a ribbon banner.
  3. A mask was created for the banner,
  4. And then a tea cup from Morning Brew: Tea was added to appear behind the banner.
  5. We removed the mask, added subtle shading with markers, and cut out the entire image to pop onto the invitation above the printed sentiment.
  6. Below the sentiment we stamped the invite details, and layered the entire panel onto a Party Teal Dawn flat card panel.

We planned this event to have a simple DIY project upon arrival for each guest.  They will create a non-traditional name tag, but instead of writing their name, they will write something they would like others to pray for them.

Through Matthew 18:19 we know, “Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.”

We simply die cut a few leaves from Simple Felt using the Leaflets dies and banners from Favor Flags. Each banner was stamped with the sentiment “praying for:” from the File It: Devotional set.

This is a great way to interact with each guest as soon as they arrive. Once assembled a lapel pin can adhere to the back of each tag and worn by the guest.

As guests proceed to their seat, they are also given Prayer Breakfast cards. These cards are for note taking, reflection, and writing down prayers and/or prayer requests.

At the end of the breakfast, each guest will go home with a reminder that their “cup runneth over” with tea bag party favors. The tea bags have custom tags die cut using the Tea Tags die, and stamped with an image and sentiment from the File It: Devotional set. A total of three tea bags are packaged neatly inside of the Party Favor 9 box, which is stamped with the Fruit of the Spirit background.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this peek into planning a Prayer Breakfast with us!

Today we are exploring color! Last month designer Audrey Tokach shared a fun tutorial on creating in monochromatic color using only gray markers. And today she is sharing vibrant bands of color! We are talking about Ombré Coloring. This color trend has taken the creative industry by storm, and Audrey is sharing a great way to translate this style into your papercrafted projects through creating with a gradient of color – ombré style. Read more

CSS-FileIt-2.jpg

Let’s talk color. What is your favorite color? Or are you like us and you have lots of favorites? Our color of choice changes with the seasons, the mood of the day, or can sometimes be influenced by current color trends – we have our friends at Pantone to thank for that!

We started release week with the File It Series basics (here). So today we are adding in one of our most favorite design elements…you guessed it – color! As you can see, even our crafty snacks want in on the color coordinating fun.

When working with color its a good idea to create a system for having swatches of each color that you can keep close by on your desk or in something portable that is easy to take with you. Now remember, we forewarned you that you will be reaching for the Stationery Organizer Dies quite often, they are just that much fun to work with and create the perfect solutions for craftization!

When designing stamps for the File it Series, we knew our need for color coding would be front and center and we set out to create a stamp set specifically for organizing color. And with a full line of color-coordinated Hybrid Inks, Cardstock, Ribbon, Gift Wrap and Envelopes we couldn’t resist creating an exclusive stamp set dedicated to organizing your Clear and Simple Stamps signature colors as well…

With (46) colors in the Clear and Simple Stamps color line, creating a CSS Color Guide was a welcomed project. The cover is a random sampling of colors stamped with the small rectangle filler image from the File It: Color set.

Each color is represented as an index card, and is accompanied with a color legend index. This way we know which colors have coordinating products to help build out our designs. The full index card of cardstock is there for those times when you need a larger swatch to get a true sense of how the color will translate into a project.  It’s just like getting those adorable little paint chip squares, only to come home and after the first wide brush stroke realize it’s just not the right shade. A larger swatch gives you a better sense of the true color.

So many of our images can be colored with markers, we added the coordinating Copic Marker colors to take the guess work out of matching our colors with markers. Of course you can use this with any of your alcohol ink markers, we happen to prefer Copics.

We honestly don’t know how we managed without this crafty tool before now! Every CSS color name is included in the File It: CSS Color set, which allows you to create with a very uniform and professional look. And this goes for more than creating a color guide. With several different combinations of indexes and label sentiments you can design a wide variety of color inspired organization.

Here we used File It: Color to stamp die cut labels with a color combo index, you can pre-stamp the labels and have them ready to go whenever a new color combo comes to mind. To fill them in we used our CSS Hybrid inks to add the color, and also to stamp the color name from File It: CSS Color.

Feeling ready to color coordinate your stash? The File It Series is now available for purchase [here]. You can create your own color organizing systems with the new File It Series. Whether you are creating color charts, cataloging color combos, or making CSS color swatches – the possibilities are incredibly fun and functional!

Designer Audrey Tokach is joining us today to show us how to add color using grayscale! We love that Rag Doll Willa is the model for today’s tutorial…

Monochromatic Coloring

__________________________________________________________________________________

For many, coloring with Copic Markers adds lots of intense color and brings your stamped artwork to life.  The same can be said about coloring with Copics in grayscale!

Just like the nostalgia of black and white photography – monochromatic coloring evokes a crisp, classic style that creates a vintage look and feel. The use of light and shadows becomes intensified, and the end result is simply precious.

Visit with Audrey on her blog as she walks you through how to add monochromatic color.

{SUPPLIES} 1. Favor Flags Dies | 2. Rag Doll Willa: Enjoy | 3. Rag Doll Glasses | 4. Rag Doll Scenes 2 | 5. Build-a-Critter Pal: Basic | 6. Tea Tags Dies | 7. Rag Doll: Tea Party | 8. Black/White Twine | 9. Cube Die | OTHER: Copics

Today’s project is brought to you by designer Tracy Schultz:

“I love the ombre technique, and one way to spice it up is by adding stripes and a little glitter to the mix. Here I used our 1/4″ Simple Adhesive to hold the glitter down which works like a dream.”
